Pest Control

This is just deranged.

"It was bad enough that the six politicians who had the whip withdrawn were allowed to continue as independents in the immediate aftermath," writes this overentitled lunatic, who truly believes that the use of a Twitter hashtag by the right people ought to overturn both the electoral and the judicial processes.

There has been no "failure to investigate". The investigations have now been going on for so long that the mere mention of them has an almost Proustian effect. What there has been, has been a failure to find anything. But still #IBelieveHer, apparently.

When is Labour going to restore the whip to Kelvin Hopkins, the staunch Lexiteer who was the first MP to nominate Jeremy Corbyn for Leader? The re-election of Hopkins at Luton North must now be considered one of the very highest priorities at the next General Election.

The other way lies such catastrophes as the confirmation to the United States Supreme Court of a Justice with the most egregious record on torture, Guantánamo Bay, mass surveillance, workers' rights, consumer protection, environmental responsibility, treaties with Native Americans, and healthcare for people with preexisting conditions.

On any one of those issues, Brett Kavanaugh could have been blocked, with all Democrats and enough Republicans voting against him. But the other side chose to make it about #MeToo instead. The confirmation of Kavanaugh will be the only lasting legacy of the #MeToo phenomenon.

The Women's Equality Party exists to promote the media careers of its well-heeled and well-connected stalwarts, in the way that the Official Monster Raving Loony Party exists to promote its members on the pub entertainment circuit, especially in the South East. The latter, however, is a far nobler endeavour.

There ought to be an absolute requirement that a representative of the Official Monster Raving Loony Party be featured whenever airtime was given to anyone from the Women's Equality Party. Newspapers and others ought also to consider such balance to be good practice.

But there is a better way. At Luton North. Here at North West Durham, if I can raise the £10,000 necessary to mount a serious campaign. And with any luck, also at Birmingham Yardley, the Belly of the Beast.
