The Next Generation of Leadership

Richard Burgon will be on Question Time tonight, and Angela Rayner will speak at the Durham Miners' Gala on Saturday.

The next generation of leadership is already in place.

But not on the other side. Conservatives ought to be annoyed at the attention that Jacob Rees-Mogg receives.

He is transparently contrived, and he is obviously only ever on any television programme other than Have I Got News for You in order to avoid giving the gig to a serious politician from his party.

But then, that party is preparing to be led by Boris Johnson, who is transparently contrived, and who is obviously only ever on any television programme other than Have I Got News for You in order to avoid giving the gig to a serious politician.

To be followed, in due season, by Jacob Rees-Mogg.

Labour, on the other hand, is preparing to be led, in due season, by either Richard Burgon or Angela Rayner.
