The Stomach For It

I am delighted that stomach tissue has been grown from pluripotent stem cells.

I am told that, albeit not by name, I now appear in medical textbooks. I had the most ulcerated colon ever seen in one who lived to tell the tale.

Pluripotent stem cells are generated directly from adult cells. The progress being made in this field is one of the great marvels of the age. But it struggles to secure funding.

By contrast, embryonic stem cell "research" has yielded absolutely nothing. Yet it is permitted to cost any amount of money, purely on account of whom it annoys.

That is not science.

Science is what works.

  1. We need you in Parliament, the media or both now. We have needed you in them for 10 years.

What a life you have led, what a life you are still leading. The illness. Now the disability. The early bereavement. The late entry into higher education. The very varied work history. The school governorships and things from an incredibly early age. The phenomenal range of reading and writing. Just getting on and setting up the Lanchester Review and the One Nation Society with at least one other major project obviously in the pipeline.

You are no golden boy with a charmed life like that one who looked like a pop star and couldn't get elected in a month of Sundays. You are a real person.
