The Navy Lark

This island country had the mightiest navy that the world had ever seen long before nuclear weapons were thought of.

The idea that we need Trident in order to justify the existence of the Royal Navy is far beyond preposterous.

On the contrary, we could and should have a proper Royal Navy again, along with so very many other things, if we were not splurging money on this vanity project.

  1. We should switch to an airborne nuclear deterrent.

Purely on the principle that we never know when we might need such a deterrent.

The same logic as taking out fire insurance.

  2. Heebie jeebies are no basis for anything. We know with absolute certainty that we are never going to "need" this thing. If Germany or Canada doesn't, then why do we? And whom, exactly, has it ever deterred?
