Honest Friendship

Good luck to Tony Abbott if he happened to be appointed to the Board of Trade, but I cannot see what he has ever done for Britain. It is largely thanks to him that one third of Australia’s exports go to China, and that one person in 50 in Australia is ethnically Chinese. It is inconceivable that Boris Johnson, Dominic Cummings and Munira Mirza do not know that. So much, then, for the Commonwealth sentimentalists and the CANZUK enthusiasts, who have clearly given up on the United States and the “Anglosphere”.

After all, “What kind of internationalism says that we must give priority to an Indian over a Frenchman, an Australian over a German, a Malaysian over an Italian?” Global Britain must have “peace, commerce, and honest friendship with all nations, entangling alliances with none,” since, “It is our true policy to steer clear of permanent alliance with any portion of the foreign world.”

British elite interests, among others, subverted such an approach on the part of the American Republic. But the vote for Brexit was not delivered by the declining British elite. It was delivered by and for the rising British people, who already have links to every inhabited territory on the planet.
