Four years ago, Fox News billed Nigel Farage as "the Leader of the Opposition" because it wanted him to be so, even though, then as now, he had never been elected to the House of Commons.
And today, the official Western media are billing Alexei Navalny in similar terms, even though none of his various political projects has ever elected anyone to anything, with the latest hitting no higher than two per cent in the opinion polls.
The difference is that while many people in Britain, including everyone who followed politics, knew who Farage was, more or less no one in Russia has ever heard of Navalny. If Vladimir Putin never says his name, then that is because he is not worth mentioning. It is possible that Putin simply does not know Navalny's name, in the way that Boris Johnson does not know mine.
Navalny would not be worth successfully killing on the cheap with a gun. Much less expensively failing to kill with Novichok.
