Harsh Rule?

There is a near-total blackout of the biggest story in at least a decade, the abject surrender in Afghanistan, which some of us have been predicting since the war began.

According to the BBC, the Taliban in the 1990s were noted for their "harsh rule". It says worse than that about Priti Patel.

Even accepting, for the sake of argument, that that war had anything to do with the death of Osama bin Laden, then what has that death, in itself, made any better?

And as for the Taliban's "cutting ties to al-Qaeda and other terrorists", will that also apply, for example, to the United States? Or to NATO Turkey? If not, why not?

Ours is the 2020 Vision of a new political party, a new think tank, a new weekly newspaper, a new monthly cultural review, a new quarterly academic journal, and so much else besides.
