Forward Drive, Upward Drive

There are to be no job losses at Nissan. And Toyota has commenced production of the new 2019 Corolla at Burnaston, in Derbyshire. That plant employs more than three thousand people. The Nissan X-Trail, which is now to be made in that well-known EU member state of Japan after all, is a Sport-Utility Vehicle, making it a bit niche and specialist. Whereas the Toyota Corolla is the best-selling car in the world.

Meanwhile, and this would be very well on its way by now if people had listened to me and kicked out the useless Leadership of Durham County Council last year, I am now working with all of the non-Labour members of Durham County Council and with the trade unions, to bring Volkswagen’s production for the British market to County Durham after, or even before, Brexit. I am more than open to further suggestions along similar lines.

Among many other things, this project will guarantee the financial future of the Durham Miners’ Gala and of the Durham Miners’ Hall. The absence of the County Council Labour Group is that Group’s own sorry fault. I also unreservedly condemn the decision of that Group to award to the Kier Group, with its history of blacklisting, the contract to build the new headquarters of Durham County Council.

Another hung Parliament is coming, however, and we need our people to hold the balance of power in it. It has become a local commonplace that I am on 30-30-30 with Labour and the Conservatives here at North West Durham, so that any one of us could be the First Past the Post. I will stand for this seat, if I can raise the £10,000 necessary to mount a serious campaign. Please email davidaslindsay@hotmail.com. Very many thanks.
