Subsidiarity means that decisions ought to be taken at the lowest practicable level, not at the lowest level that the imagination can possibly devise.
If enough people in the South to win an election voted to privatise the whole of health, education and the roads, then would that be all right by the "localists"?
As an absolute figure, there will always be more poor people in Kent and Essex than anywhere else. But their councils will be Conservative until the End of Days. What is to become of them?
