But even the lie, never mind the truth, would pale into insignificance next to the losses to the nation from the sale of the Royal Mail and from the impending sale of RBS.
George Osborne's best man made £63 million (yes, that figure does say what you think that it does) out of the sale of the Royal Mail. How much will he make out of the sale of RBS?
