Tracking Truths

Utter falsehood on Jeremy Vine this afternoon, from Ben Southwood of the Adam Smith Institute, who claimed that the East Coast Main Line had always been in profit, since it was essentially a license to print money.

In reality, it has returned to profitability as a result of its second emergency renationalisation.

Taking back each franchise as it came up for renewal would achieve, over the course of a Parliament, the renationalisation desired by 70 per cent of the population, including the majorities even of Conservative and UKIP voters.

Ed Miliband, over to you.
