According to Andy Newman, “It is a paradox that this opening salvo in a war between two rival imperialisms for control of the Asia-Pacific region also led directly to the declaration of war on the USA by the fascist powers in Europe.”
Not half as much of one as the reaction to this statement, be in right or be it wrong, by those who in general sound more than a little like the Asian Marxists who had cheered on General Tōjō as a “liberator” before exercising in later life a formative influence on those who have gone on to become New Labour.
