Up In Arms

No more aid to Iraq, although, considering the composition and character of the government that we have installed there, that might not necessarily be any bad thing. Service personnel returning from Afghanistan to be presented with their P45s. And Cameron just returned from touring the Middle East as a travelling salesman for the arms trade.

I loathe the arms trade. I would happily ban all sale of arms abroad, provided that the Government had put in the groundwork to ensure continuing employment elsewhere for the often highly skilled workers involved. For that, we need a publicly owned monopoly supplier to the British Armed Forces, with all other manufacture of our trade in arms banned outright.

Those Armed Forces could then perfectly affordably be as large as we liked while answerable to no one but ourselves. EU or no EU, something like this works for the French. Let this, which is even better, work even better for us.
