It is easy to laugh at David Miliband's national network of a thousand Community Organizers, as he no doubt spells it, so desperately does he want to be Barack Obama. That it is easy should not necessarily stop us from laughing long and loud.
But not only is this a classic case of astroturfing, the faking of grass roots by Silly Milly's strikingly generous backers in big business and among super-rich individuals. It is also the beginning, at that expense, of a party within the Labour Party.
Last night, several old friends told me that they were going to vote for Miliband, because they wanted another North East MP as Leader. Well, a fat lot of good the last one did us, didn't he?
