All Systems Go

First off, a small correction. Cameron's party was never going to fight every seat in the House, since it was never standing a candidate at Buckingham. Other than Nigel Farage, of those standing there, the former High Sheriff of Buckinghamshire, Patrick Phillips, is being sold as the de facto Conservative candidate, but in fact he has not been a member of that party for nearly 40 years, and was more recently a member of UKIP, although even that was nearly 20 years ago. The former MEP John Stevens shows every sign that he is still a Lib Dem member. But none of this is the point, which is that the claim to be fighting every seat has always been false.

Gary McKinnon's mother, Janis Sharp, is to stand at Blackburn against Jack Straw. Everyone who believes in British sovereignty and British self-respect, which are what her son's case was and is really all about, should wish her well.

Gary Elsby of Stoke Central has been in touch to express his support, as I have been to express mine. He and I wish to see each other join the re-elected Dai Davies (Blaenau Gwent), Frank Cook (Stockton North), and George Galloway (Poplar & Limehouse), whom the likes of Harry's Place say will become a media non-person if, as they wish, Attlee's old seat falls to the Tory whom he faces in a straight fight. Did Oona King become a media non-person when she was defeated by Galloway? On the contrary, only that defeat made her a media person in the first place.

And so to North West Durham. After a week in which I have barely been able to leave the house, and still in considerable discomfort, I am going to have to see the doctor in the next few days. But, with people duly nudged since the Election has been called, a serious candidacy is now perfectly possible, although we may as well go the whole hog and raise the maximum that we would be permitted to spend.

The only thing that can stop me is doctor's orders, my obedience to which is the reason why I am still alive. If that happens, then the monies raised will be held for the second General Election, in the autumn, that all three BBC parties are presupposing. By then, everyone else will be completely skint; they themselves, especially the Lib Dems, will be on the ropes; and certain other formations, notably the BNP, will probably have been wound up altogether.

If that does not happen, or if I am dead or something, then those monies will be donated to the registered charity that the think tank will soon become, at which point I will be able to tell you its name, secure in the knowledge that no one will be able to nick it.
