Satyameva Jayate?

A priest whom I know well regularly visits India. This year, he has applied for his visa as usual. In order to obtain it, however, he finds that he is now required to submit in writing that he will not practise his religion while there. That he will not practise Catholicism while in Goa! Absurd, of course, from that point of view. But also horrifying in principle. Hindu nationalists recently blew themselves up in Goa, taking not only themselves with them. Our relationship with India is hugely important, but we must not be dewy-eyed about either that relationship or that country. Those who insist on rubbish like "Mumbai" and "Chennai", take note: you are indulging the people who will not allow a Catholic priest into India (which he has been visiting without difficulty for many years) unless he promises not to "practise his religion". And those people blow themselves up in crowded public places.
