We Have Lost The War In Afghanistan

We just can’t bring ourselves to admit it. We are like the Americans over Vietnam, still insisting that it was some sort of draw. But what the hell, as long as they got out? And what the hell, as long as we get out.

  2. A real draw is like Northern Ireland, when both sides are still there at the end, but they are not shooting at each other any more, since each has something (though necessarily not everything) that it wants.

That didn't happen in Vietnam - the Americans cut and run, and I am very glad that they did.

And it won't happen in Afghanistan - we should, and I think will, cut and run. I shall be very glad when we do. The sooner, the better.

  3. A lot of "unionists" think "Norn Iron" was a draw. Everyone is entitled to put the best gloss on events.
I dont have any real doubt it is only half time.

  4. "We Have Lost The War In Afghanistan"

    Again.

Because of course, when Sherlock Holmes first meets Doctor Watson he is able to recognize him as a veteran of the Second Afghan War....
