The American treatment of Canada after 9/11 was shocking. But Canadian union leaders have more lately backed Buy American and called for the adoption of Buy Canadian. And now, the muted American reaction to the impending withdrawal from Afghanistan offers a faint glimmer of hope that Obama may at last be on the verge of seeing sense.

ReplyDeleteAs much as anything else, I think that they have had enough of being insulted by Hillary Clinton. Good for them.
So there will be British troops in Afghanistan and Canada will pull out. And all this is USAs fault and nothing to do with Canada acting quite properly in its own interest..as indeed it would in any future war.
ReplyDeleteThe British and Canadian interests could never fail to correspond in practice. Afghanistan makes that particularly starkly clear. They are getting out. And so should we.

It's a fraternal relationship these days. And in any case, this war is not actually in defence of either of them, which is rather the point on every level.
ReplyDeleteCanada is in a better position than Ireland, which does in fact staff the Army on which it would depend should it ever need defending, but we all know which Army that is, and it's not the Irish Army.
