Really Spoiling Us?

Career diplomats should go on strike if David Lammy made Peter Mandelson, or any other politician, Ambassador to Washington, and Donald Trump should refuse to accept Mandelson's credentials because of his ties to Jeffrey Epstein.

Elsewhere in the Blairite Restoration, I am always glad when John McTernan says the quiet part out loud. He is of course quite right that Margaret Thatcher's argument against the miners also applied to small farmers. Indeed, that ideology, to which the Labour Party is constitutionally committed whereas the Conservative Party is not, would leave Britain with no agriculture whatever. That has long been set out by Professor Patrick Minford, the guru of Liz Truss. Saving agriculture can be done only by those of us who, since it was 40 years ago, at least stood in the tradition that had opposed the destruction of the coal industry. However strong anyone else's sentiment, it is no more than that. Only we have the intellectual resources.
