Bishop Wright Must Be All Right

Pat Buckley does not like Bishop Stephen Wright, so Bishop Wright must be all right. Meanwhile, at five o'clock yesterday afternoon, Bishop Robert Byrne CO celebrated Mass at the Little Sisters of the Poor care home in Manchester, for the repose of the soul of its recently deceased resident, his uncle, Fr Jack Rigby. At one o'clock this afternoon, at St Vincent's, Newbrook Road, Over Hulton, Bishop Byrne will assist Bishop John Arnold of Salford at Fr Rigby's funeral.

That is public ministry, so His Lordship must hold an Enhanced DBS check. He would not hold one if he were subject to a Police investigation for sexual assault, probably not if he ever had been, and certainly not if he had been in the last seven months. It has been established that there has never been a Police investigation into Bishop Byne. He should now sue every media outlet that had suggested that there was one. An Oratorian does not take a vow of poverty, and the English Oratories have friends who could afford any lawyer in London.

I alone have publicly defended Bishop Byrne. I have done so from the very start. And I shall continue to do so. This could not have been an executive summary of this. That would have been impossible, since they bear no resemblance to each other. It is all hereSomething has changed since 3rd May. What is it? And where is the original report?

I may not, but I may, accept the present report when Bishop Byrne had done so, and to the extent that he had done so. His Lordship has yet to do so to any extent. At least while that remains the case, then I reject the whole thing out of hand, and so should you. The sum total of the charge sheet against Bishop Byrne is that he did not automatically do as he was told by the hired help. But Pat Buckley does not like Bishop Wright, so Bishop Wright must be all right.

  1. How long are you prepared to keep this up?

  2. Are you aware that Pat Buckley’s campaign against the church is simply a reaction for his getting caught using a diocesan credit card to withdraw cash to pay for sexual services from male prostitutes at the docks in Larne.

The story was publicised by Clerical Whispers (the outing of Bishop Buckley) and is only scraping the service of the criminal activities carried out by Mr Buckley. He engages in this behaviour to draw the attention away from his own criminal past and towards others. It really isn’t on.
