Sit the exams in the autumn? The second spike is coming.
A year outside the exam factory system is not the end of the world, though. Honestly, you wouldn't die. You wouldn't even forget how to read. And along the way, you may even learn something.
Go to university if at all possible. It is everything they told you, and everything they couldn't tell you. Go this year, next year, whenever. But it is university that is the "gap".
