Pact Out?

What would an electoral pact with the Brexit Party, which had never won a seat in the House of Commons, say about the party the Leader of which had been the Prime Minister for nine and a half years?

The Conservatives would be announcing that, beyond trying to hold what they had already managed to save in Wales, the North and much of the Midlands, they were openly giving up on those parts of the country.

And why them, in particular? The Brexit Party beat the Conservatives everywhere, so why should it stand aside for them anywhere?

By countenancing any such arrangement, however, it is declaring its lack of interest in the people who swung the referendum for Brexit and who won the European Elections for the Brexit Party. If there is one thing that they will never do, then it is vote Conservative for the House of Commons, even by proxy.

The main effect of the Brexit Party is going to be to hand Conservative seats to the Liberal Democrats. The Conservatives are also going to lose more than enough to the SNP. Another hung Parliament is coming, therefore, and we need our people to hold the balance of power in it. A new party is now in the process of registration.

After nearly 30 years of suggestion, speculation, and even a sort of preparation, I will stand for Parliament here at North West Durham. The crowdfunding page is here, and buy the book here. Please email davidaslindsay@hotmail.com. Very many thanks.

  1. "The Brexit Party beat the Conservatives everywhere, so why should it stand aside for them anywhere?" Exactly.
