On The Run From The Truth

As the strange case of John Downey takes its latest twist, I ask two questions now, as I have asked them before.

First, how, exactly, did a Minister of the Crown ever successfully send a letter to a man who was on the run from the British State?

And secondly, why, exactly, did any judge ever care tuppence that some politician had once told the defendant before him that he would never stand trial?
