Secondary Postmodern

Poor Jade Goody. “Reality” television and the wider culture that it spawned are finally reaching their nadir. And that is quite a feat.

Time was when she would have gone to something called a Secondary Modern school. Think of the people you know who attended these much-reviled institutions. They do not wonder why Eskimos’ eyes do not freeze over. They do not imagine there to be a country called “East Angular”.

And if their children and grandchildren had been able to follow them to Secondary Moderns, then Big Brother would have been lucky to make it past series one, or even to be commissioned at all. Never mind who would have watched it. Who could possibly have considered appearing on it?
