On The Buses

It was treated as a joke when Jeremy Corbyn talked about buses. But now Boris Johnson agrees with him, at least more than most Labour MPs ever did.

Here in County Durham, we barely have buses anymore. That is partly because it would be so unsafe for them among the potholes. But it is mostly because the County Council, which is the distilled essence of the Labour Right, remains committed to the position of every Government in the 40 years from 1979 to 2019, that anyone on a bus after the age of 25 had failed at life.

Stretching to every village, we need a national network of public transport free at the point of use. That would be so popular that by the time of the General Election after its introduction, then even the Labour Party would have to promise to keep it.
