As a kind of in joke for some of you, The White Queen features a formidable matriarch called the Duchess Cecily. Some things never change.
More generally, while watching
The White Queen, I found myself pondering that there must be a better dramatist who could take on the Wars of the Roses. Perhaps
it has already been done.
Even if by someone who, when
it came to the Plantagenets, was not worried about the facts getting in the way of a good story.
Does anyone know?
I
also cannot help feeling that a better writer must at some point have dealt
with witchcraft as a means of interference in kingly succession. Again,
does anyone know?
Seriously,
after the success of The Hollow Crown this time last year, the BBC ought now to be giving us the three Henry VI plays and Richard III.
But I am going to stick with The White Queen until the end. Of course.
There is a TV series called an age of Kings which deals with all the Shakespeare from Richard ii to Richard iii. Although the series doesn't have much magical elements it is filled with great actors like Judi Dench, Sean Connery and many others who give off great portrayals of there characters . I have also heard that the actor Richard Armitage is thinking of Making an adaption of The Sunne In Splendour By Sharon Kay Penman which is an amazing novel that I highly recommend. there are also The tower of London 1939 (Movie) and Henry vi Plays 1983 (TV series) and war of the roses 1964 (TV series). Hope this helped
