Sanity, Not Santorum

Eisenhower, Nixon, Ford, Bush I, Dole, McCain, and now Romney: how many "conservatives" can there really be, even within the Republican Party, if it has spent 60 years nominating candidates like that?

A certain sort of Evangelical seems to be attracted to Rick Santorum. But his views wildly at variance with Catholic Teaching on social justice and on peace manifestly play very badly - again, even among registered Republicans - in areas of significant Catholic population.

As reassuring a sign as the nomination of Marcy Kaptur over Dennis Kucinich. It is not yet time to give up on either party.

  1. I just found out tonight that when the Santorum family came to visit my city of Memphis, TN, after they visited the Sunday service of the huge Southern Baptist megachurch, wherein Santorum came up to the altar and had the pastor lay hands on him, he went to mass at the big box church in Memphis' richest suburb, wherein he and his family took the gifts up to the altar during Mass. I was, needless to say, greatly appalled upon hearing both accounts.
