Our Loonies, Too

500 elected representatives have to nominate a candidate for President of the French Republic.

Among those who have failed to secure such support this time is Dominique de Villepin, a former Prime Minister. Among those who have succeeded is Jacques Cheminade, French lieutenant of Lyndon LaRouche. Coming next, a seat in the European Parliament, there to legislate for us?

This is what happens when no one else promises to separate retail and investment banking, to create proper jobs by means of infrastructure projects that are also good in themselves, and to pull out and keep out of wars of "liberal intervention".

  1. Speaking of Francophone politics, perhaps a discussion about Pierre Poujade & Maurice Duplessis might be in order at some point. I would be interested to hear your own analysis of these two men & the forces they represent.

    Off topic:

We know Fr Robert Barron is visiting Durham soon. As our man on the spot we are looking forward to you previewing & reviewing what the good Father has to say, as well as likely local reaction.

  2. Oh, if I can get. And I wouldn't expect much, if any, "local reaction".

I have done the trois droites many times on here, but will doubtless do so again between now the election.

  3. Perhaps as a Knight of the Faith you could help promote the event Lanchester. This would be over & above the fine work you do in a tutorial role at Durham where I take it you enjoy company of fellow Catholics who are studying at the University.

No one can prevent you being a living witness to the faith David.

Thank you for offering us another chance in the future to learn more about the philosophical approaches behind right-wing Francophone politics.

  4. Here in Lanchester, those of us dependent (medically, in my case) on public transport are now confined to the place in the evenings, on Sundays and on Bank Holidays.

Partisan agitation of either kind is not really in keeping with this sort of small town parish, but I'll have a few words in a few well-chosen ears.

As for the university, I'd have to check the dates to see if they'll be here, and in any case next term is a dead loss: three weeks revision, three weeks exams, three weeks champagne, strawberries and cream, Pimms, &c. Nothing could drag them away from any of those pursuits.
