Splendid news that the Dioceses of Salford and Shrewsbury are to abandon the idiotic "textbooks" Here I Am, in primary schools, and Icons, in secondary schools.
Dare we now hope that RE in Catholic schools might at last be on the long road back to the same academic standard as the rest of the curriculum, with no more 16-year-olds dragged away from their quadratic equations or their Shakespeare in order to spend an hour of every school day colouring in, often without so much a teacher present?
The situation would never have reached that point if there had in fact been the State supervision of this compulsory subject that ecclesial authorities on both sides of the Tiber are always so anxious to eschew. But who knows, perhaps even the Holy Grail on inclusion in the English Baccalaureate now beckons? There would be absolutely no case for such inclusion while Icons, and therefore also Here I Am, was still in use.

Her I am being stopped? That is indeed good news. Would be even better if every Diocese consigned it to hellfire
