The Mainstreaming of Mormonism

At this admittedly early stage, the Republican Presidential nomination seems to be heading towards Mitt Romney, who is the prophet and apostle of socialised medicine, and who ran for the Senate from Ted Kennedy's left. A sign that, Tea Party or no Tea Party, the GOP primary electorate is still predominately made up of the people who nominated Nixon, Ford, Bush the Elder, Dole and McCain. A sign of the times in which America will soon contain more Mormons than Jews.

And as much a sign of the times as the email from my friends at the rather high-powered Centre for Theology and Philosophy at Nottingham, the principal institutional product of the Radical Orthodoxy that has so far given the world Conor Cunningham of Darwin's Pious Idea (the email actually came from Conor) and Phillip Blond, Philosopher-King at the Court of David Cameron. That email announced, inter alia, that one of the sponsors of the Centre's annual conference is the Evans Chair at Brigham Young University.

One to watch.
