Mind How You Go

Will the Police ask themselves what it is about them that has taken them, well within two generations, from a position in which shopkeepers and publicans regularly let them off paying and told them to keep up the good work, to one in which many thousands of people leave online tributes to Raoul Moat?

    The north east's insane reaction to the Raoul Moat saga neatly exemplifies one of the main reasons I escaped the area as soon as I were old enough.

    "As soon as I were old enough" is a Yorkshire/Lancashire-ism. You have never been further north than Oxford or Cambridge.
