Having been involved in Police-Community Liaison for a good number of years, I really do sometimes despair of the Police. Trained marksmen do not need machine guns, and I think that we could all do without the sight of men in black shirts (since when?) pointing such weapons at children and the elderly. Armed guards on school gates? I ask you!
If Raoul Moat had not fired a non-fatal shot at one of their own, then they would happily have allowed him to be just another murderer on the run, and there is any number of those. When is this amount of effort going to be expended on catching any of them? Where, exactly, have all these Police been hiding until this week? And what, exactly, have they been doing there?
