Silver Lining

If one good thing might come out of the war in Afghanistan, it is that NATO might finally be dismantled. That should have happened in 1991, when it ceased to have anything to do. But instead, it has done immense damage in its search for a role, including extending itself all the way up to within a few hundred miles of Saint Petersburg, one of several clear provocations designed to resume the Cold War without which the world makes no sense to the people who decide these things. Away with it!
