They Haven't Gone Away, You Know

The Scottish and Welsh devolution of 1999 is being merrily bypassed by this Government's largesse towards seats that it either wishes to hold having won them in 2017 or 2019, or wishes to win back having won them in 2017 but lost them back to the SNP last time.

Yet it will take more than money in Northern Ireland. Anyone who doubts quite how belligerent Labour Governments have always been should consider that the Wilson Government managed to start a war inside the United Kingdom. That war went on for 30 years until the penny dropped that next to no one in Great Britain wanted the thing for which we had been fighting ever since the very early stage at which we had swapped sides.

For so we had. In all the long history of the British Empire, Ulster Loyalists had been the first people ever to have come against the British Army firing guns while waving the Union Flag. And today, support for the Good Friday Agreement was withdrawn by the Loyalist Communities Council, which represents the Ulster Defence Association, the Ulster Volunteer Force, and the Red Hand Commando.
