While the increase in the contactless transaction limit will greatly convenience many of us, the war on cash is to be resisted more broadly. We do not want them to know every penny that we ever spend. But they want to know it.
And what is this thing, the Institute for Fiscal Studies, to which we are to show such deference? It is not politically impartial. Nothing ever is, or ever can be. It should be treated with the same scepticism as the BBC that is in awe of it.
