Pulling My Linger Out

"You comments today were beyond disgusting: they were the product of a sick mind and will destroy whatever lingering support there was for you. I think there will be consequences for you to face and quite right, too."

Woo, get her!

Damian Thompson sends me these "Please stop being horrid to me, you big nasty brute" emails from time to time.

Just before Christmas, there was one all about how he had been celibate for many years, and how he sat alone in his flat in the evenings, listening to Bach.

Anyway, as I wrote in reply to this latest effort, there is nothing that he can do to me which he has not already done.

And "whatever lingering support there was for" me? What on earth does that mean?

Support for what? Lingering from what? Lingering from when? Baffling. Utterly, utterly baffling.

  1. You sound increasingly bitter.

No proper Catholic (or conservative) would make such disgusting sexual innuendos (and indeed statements).

I don't know the history, but if he's wronged you, why can't you be the bigger man and forgive him, as your faith requires you to?

  2. Well, I seem to have beaten him once and for all this time. He has tormented me for years. Persecuted me. But no more. So yes, it does look as if it has come to an end. And I have won.

  3. Do you not see this spoils any chance you may have had of one day being a newspaper columnist somewhere?

I don't understand all the personal animosity just because he fired you years ago. Can't you just forgive?

In what sense have you won? He's been Tweeting away about ways to stop what he called your "filthy campaign" against him, and Retweeting your Tweets about him.

His friend has even suggested walking to Google's nearby offices to suggest they take down your blog.

  4. If there was ever any chance of my being made a newspaper columnist (news to me), then he long ago did for that.

He did not merely sack me years ago. That would have been that. He, his mates and their minions have vilified me incessantly for years.

The nearest approximation of which I am aware has been Oliver Kamm's campaign against Neil Clark for once having given his daft book a bad review.

But the treatment of me, also involving Kamm, has been, and remains, of altogether a different order.

My tweets are public knowledge. That is the point of them.

And if, as you describe, he is having some kind of breakdown, then things really do seem to reaching their dénouement.

Good. Not a moment before time.

  5. Why don't you publicly outline what he did to you? To most people looking at Twitter, it seems to be you who has the obsession with him (he claims, on there, that you have run a "filthy campaign" against him for years.

Why don't you put the record straight, and tell everyone the reason for the animosity?

  6. It has been on here numerous times.

But he is quite visibly having a breakdown on Twitter (and in his emails to me) because someone has dared to retaliate at all, even at only one per cent or less of his characteristic ferocity.

Typical playground bully. Except 61 years old.

  7. You've really set the cat amongst the pigeons now.

Oliver Kamm is Tweeting that Damian Thompson will get his "in-house social media team" to shut your Twitter account and blog down.

Kamm has put up a series of Tweets suggesting you are crazy and have no life "apart from blogging and Twitter".

I hope he doesn't succeed in taking you down. But be careful with him-he's a ruthless cruel bastard if ever there was one.

  8. So how come you are listed as 'Dr David Lindsay' on John Milbank's website?

  9. John Milbank has a website? I suspect that you might be making that up.

Anyway, I am not, nor have I ever claimed to be, Dr Lindsay. I don't think that I am even listed as "MA" in the University Calendar, although I might be wrong. We still value a certain reticence up here.

I have no fear of Kamm. Like Thompson, as soon as you fight back, then he curls up and cries like a little girl. I have laid down a perfectly reasonable challenge to Kamm on Twitter. But he won't take it up.

  10. I would draw back from this if I were you. He's a reprehensible little toad if ever I saw one.

You may have insulted me through much of our correspondence, but I should be sad to see your blog or Twitter damaged by this.

    Your UKIP reader.

  11. I have said everything that I have to say to or about either Kamm or the other one, whose name I will not even write anymore.

    As I have already tweeted:

"Poor @OliverKamm imagines being a dependent of Sun Bingo & Page 3 still has clout it did when he took away my Google Ads, a loss of income."

    And:

"@holysmoke, don't flatter yourself that I have anything further to say to or about you. You still have a lot to say about me, though. A lot."

My challenge to Kamm still stands, to post something to the college where he maintains that I hold no post and see whether or not I receive it. Include something for me to tweet, and I will. Recorded delivery, the porter will sign for it.

Apart from that, though, I have nothing further to say.
