If Baroness Amos really does go to the UN, and if Sir Menzies Campbell really is sent to replace her in Canberra in order to get him out of the Coalition's hair, then that would of course cause a by-election at North East Fife. Lib Dems enjoy a level of local control over candidate selection such as Conservative Party members can no longer imagine and Labour Party members never could. Sir Ming looks like a lot less trouble in the Commons than he would be out of it.
