A black lady of my acquaintance was recently accosted by an uncouth youth singing Jerusalem and waving the Union Flag.
As a Girlguider, she corrected both his lyrics and his tune, and she advised him that his flag, being upside down, was a signal of distress.
I suppose he was distressed.

DeleteIt's the Union Jacks in old Irish strongholds like Consett that make me laugh.
ReplyDeleteAnd it is not as if the population descended from these Islands has changed. These are grandsons and great-grandsons of the people whom we remember. Some of those are still alive, and living in what looks like East Belfast, or Ibrox.
