Manufacturing Consent?

Well, of course the letter from Noam Chomsky and others in support of Chris Williamson has been taken down by The Guardian.

Waving pieces of paper that were awarded when they were all of 21 for three years of having done nothing very much at all, Blairites are convinced that they are intellectuals. But even in their prime their idea of a public intellectual was Kevin Spacey, and these days it is Her Off Countdown.

So they become shouty and sweary when they encounter the real thing. The very fact that they have never heard of someone like Chomsky confronts them with the fact that they are not the real thing. They are not anything at all.
