Neither The Northern Echo, nor, rather more disappointingly, the Morning Star, nor, so far as I am aware, anyone else, has carried this. So here it is:
Dear Sir,
The MP for North West Durham is Laura Pidcock. She has voted for the Customs Union. She has voted for Common Market 2.0, meaning membership both of the Customs Union and of Margaret Thatcher’s Single Market. She has voted for a second referendum. And she has abstained on the proposal to revoke Article 50 rather than leave on World Trade Organisation terms. There is an awful lot wrong with the WTO. But at least it is not as bad as the EU.
A second referendum would order Wales, the North and the Midlands to vote again until they gave the same answer as London. And a second referendum would order the working class to vote again until it gave the same answer as the “metropolitan liberal elite”. Yet ostensibly on behalf of the people of North West Durham, Pidcock has voted to issue those orders to us.
Another hung Parliament is coming, however, and we need our people to hold the balance of power in it. It has become a local commonplace that I am on 30-30-30 with Labour and the Conservatives here at North West Durham, so that any one of us could be the First Past the Post.
Yours faithfully,
David Lindsay
Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for North West Durham
