Tryst With Destiny?

Was Nicola Sturgeon's damp squib the main news even in Scotland? If so, then there cannot have been much else on there yesterday.

Her game is to try and tell Theresa May to give her this, and then the SNP would abstain on the Withdrawal Agreement, easily cancelling out any disgruntled Scottish Conservative rebels against any such arrangement. But that ship has sailed.

The fact that the European Elections are happening means that Brexit simply is not. If Sturgeon now wants independence after Brexit, or at the same stroke of the midnight hour, when the world sleeps, then she does not really want independence at all.

In the last 10 years, the SNP has spectacularly failed to make two hung Parliaments work for it. Another hung Parliament is coming, however, and we need our people to hold the balance of power in it.

It has become a local commonplace that I am on 30-30-30 with Labour and the Conservatives here at North West Durham, so that any one of us could be the First Past the Post. I will stand for this seat, if I can raise the £10,000 necessary to mount a serious campaign. Please email davidaslindsay@hotmail.com. Very many thanks.
