The deposit alone is five thousand pounds, and Stephen Yaxley-Lennon is no paper candidate. He is already in trouble for treating. Who is paying for all of this? There is serious money on the Far Right, of course. Someone pays for Toby Young's London Conference on Intelligence, for a start.
It turns out that I was at university with the latest Editor-in-Chief of the Mankind Quarterly. As so often with that sort, I am led to exclaim, "That's the master race, is it?" I am not sure where his wife and two children have come from, either. I rather doubt that even he could explain it.
Yaxley-Lennon is not going to be elected, just as nor are the people who call themselves "Sargon of Akkad" and "Count Dankula". Their YouTube subscribers or what have you are not concentrated in such numbers in one part of Britain as to be able to elect a Member of the European Parliament.
So there will be no "Tommy Robinson" MEP. And there will be no UKIP MEPs at all. Just as there will be no Change UK MEPs at all, meaning no one from the party for which Tony Blair will certainly be voting and which he is probably funding. Blair is about to stand exposed as a person of no more political consequence than "Sargon of Akkad", or "Count Dankula", or "Tommy Robinson".
Beyond that, another hung Parliament is coming, and we need our people to hold the balance of power in it. It has become a local commonplace that I am on 30-30-30 with Labour and the Conservatives here at North West Durham, so that any one of us could be the First Past the Post. I will stand for this seat, if I can raise the £10,000 necessary to mount a serious campaign. Please email davidaslindsay@hotmail.com. Very many thanks.
