Nice Work If You Can Get It

15 years ago, Nick Clegg was an obscure Member of the European Parliament, while Danny Alexander was a Press Officer for the Cairngorms National Park Authority. But five years ago, they were both in the Cabinet.

And today, Sir Nicholas is the Vice-President for Global Affairs and Communications at Facebook, no less, while Sir Daniel is the Vice-President and Corporate Secretary of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, thank you very much.

You have probably heard of Facebook, and Clegg probably holds the highest position in it that will ever go to anyone who was not an American citizen. You may not have heard of the AIIB, but you very soon will, and Alexander certainly holds the highest position in it that will ever go to anyone who was not a Chinese citizen.

The Lib Dems are usually said to have done badly out of the Coalition, a terrible warning to anyone else who might be tempted to become the junior partner in one. Don't believe a word of it.
