The Sun That Did Not Rise

You could never have sold this idea for a television series: the endlessly interconnected falls of Murdoch, the Met and a Flashman-like Prime Minister. Even as a film, it would only have been commissioned as something along the lines of Churchill: The Hollywood Years. Yet here it is in real life, happening before our very eyes.

Which is more than can be said for the Sun on Sunday. What would have been the point? As surely as John Smith's Premiership would have been assured at any point between Golden Wednesday and his death, so, barring fatality, the Premiership is now assured to pass to the heir of Kinnock, Smith and Brown. As that heir, he has one hell of a grievance against a Murdoch red-top. But it is not the News of the World.

  1. Now it is clear what Cameron meant when he kept saying ad nauseam: "We are all in this together."

People laughed at him but he was only telling the truth.
