From The Outset

They were hardly the only ones.

But if and when the full story of our calamitous, ruinous descent into war in Iraq is ever written, then the Gentlemen will come out of it an awful lot better than the Players.

In fact, it is difficult to avoid the conclusion that the Players, knowing that this intervention would bring Islamist terrorism to the streets of London, seized the opportunity to make such atrocities their pretext for demanding that their powers be extended and their budget increased.

  1. If it wasn't for Murdoch this would be the biggest story of the week and then some. MI6 comes out of this very well but then they are all polished, pinstriped port drinkers with deep doubts about America, Israel, global capital and dropping democracy from 40,000 feet.
