RIP Amy Winehouse.
Imagine if all that you knew about her was the sound of that voice.
But she is gone at 27. Like Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison and Brian Jones.
Just say no, kids. Just say no.

an untrained voice that was above average - not a comment that could be made of the lyrics. Compare her output to that of mozart by the age of 27.
ReplyDeleteMany of the best voices in popular music are untrained. Or unspoilt, if you prefer. If you tried to train them, then they would become bad classical rather than good popular.
ReplyDeleteJust because it is popular does not make it good. That a life has been taken at 27 is upsetting of that there can be little dispute. However, the gnashing of teeth and eulogising that may follow has the potential to follow that afforded to Jade Goody - a tragic death (of age and of a mother) but beyond that of no real interest. Whether or not dave will follow Gordon's example remains to be seen
ReplyDeleteOh, she had more talent than Jade Goody. Come on.
ReplyDeleteNow, of course this death is not the end of the world. But it is a cautionary tale, and it is important for and as that.
