I will not vote for the Lib Dems who are forcing us to spend one fifth of our entire budget, and who had been prepared to force us to spend forty per cent of it, on two by-elections, mercifully on the same day, to Lanchester Parish Council.
But I believe that Labour, the Conservatives and Derwentside Independents should rise above it, allow the Lib Dems to have the two seats that they would not have won against anyone else at the moment, and saved the electorate money while preparing to present them with that fact at the next election of the full Council.

Why is there no election this year, fourt years after the last one?
ReplyDeleteSomeone, somewhere decided that we needed seven years instead of four to cover the transition to unitary local government. I know, I don't understand it, either. But no one asked us. So here we are until 2014.
ReplyDeleteYour logic is faulty. Why would any party just give up a seat? I agree it is a high price for democracy, but there it is. Pleased to hear you are not voting Lib Dem.
ReplyDeleteThey have no one to fill it. Every Labour, Tory or DI activist in Lanchester is already a Parish Councillor, and "activist" is not even the word for some of them.
ReplyDeleteThere is a high price, and then there is too high a price. We have never, ever had a by-election. We are only talking about a Parish Council here.
