I know that we are getting ahead of ourselves, but if Rod Liddle does become Editor of The Independent, then he could do a lot worse than give regular slots, not just to certain people on my blogroll, but also to those MPs who are or, having no fellow-partisans in the House, may as well be Independents. There will be a lot more later in the year.
But even now, while I cannot imagine anyone paying for the thoughts of Andrew Pelling or Lady Sylvia Hermon, they certainly would for those of Dr Richard Taylor, Dr Bob Spink, the unjustly over-punished Derek Conway, Bob Wareing, George Galloway, Clare Short or Dai Davies.
Falling newspaper circulation is undoubtedly due in part to the Internet. But it is not exclusively so, any more than falling voter turnout is due exclusively, or even primarily, to apathy.
