They can't get over how well-received Prince William has been in Australia, and have to pretend that the Australians were only being polite, or doing what they would have done for any old visiting pop star, but will dispense with the Crown soon enough.
Rubbish.
If a referendum on the monarchy had been held in Britain during the same weird, mercifully vanished post-Diana period that one was held in Australia, then that, too, may have recorded a forty per cent vote for abolition. But it certainly wouldn't now in Britain. And it certainly wouldn't now in Australia.
Even before the Diamond Jubilee. Never mind after it.
