Don't Spare The Rod

From the anti-Rod group:

"I beg your patience and promise not to inundate you with messages constantly! The campaign will win or lose in the next couple of weeks, so there will be a few messages during the week.

First, the gossip. I can assure you this campaign is well-known in the Indy newsroom and those backing the Liddle appointment are definitely unnerved by it. (We almost got a motion tabled in the House of Commons tonight by Diane Abbott MP, but there's been a delay - more on that story as it develops...)

But they're doubling down and trying to quiet protest from staff and the public by claiming the deal is sealed.

But the contract is not signed. Crucially the Indy's future owners - the Lebedevs - are actually among the sceptics here. To win this, we have to convince the Lebedevs that employing Liddle as editor would be a mistake they can avoid.

The suggested next steps are...

1) An e-mail campaign. In the next day or so, I'll provide an address to send e-mails to the Lebedevs and go for 1,000 messages.

2) A campaign directed at the advertisers - as Sunny Hundal at Liberal Conspiracy.org points out, it is the loss of advertisers more than anything that will give the campaign credibility and turn things around. We've got one, who else can we persuade?

3) Some sort of public protest and/or stunt. We've got a few ideas, and we're happy to accept more from anyone who is interested. For instance, giving out mock editions of the Indy with Rod Liddle-type headlines.

(What would the headlines/content in the Indy look like with Liddle in charge? Feel free to speculate wildly and darkly...)

4) For the desk bound, here is a task you can help with right now.

Some of you have already been doing a better job than the press in going through the opus of Rod Liddle and finding classic examples of his work.

Why not search out some real gems and post them at our group page for the benefit of the journalists who are reading it for their research?

Over the years, Liddle has also slagged off a fair few of the 'great and good.' Something else you can do when you're looking back over Liddle's articles is to make a note of who they are so we can get in touch with them and see if they can't help us out.

Of course if you have another idea on tactics we can use to stop Liddle getting this job, do get in touch or post them on the FB wall!

Thats all for now. Thanks for everything,
Alex Higgins

(very sleepy Indy reader)"

As soon as anyone has those Lebedev email addresses, then do please post them on our wall and send them to me (davidaslindsay@hotmail.com). And a motion in the House of Commons, presumably an EDM? Can we find no one to put one down, welcoming the possibility of a national newspaper which takes seriously the Left-Right alliance against neoconservatism, the conservative and patriotic Left, the left-wing opposition to unrestricted immigration, and the left-wing opposition to warmist hysteria? Perhaps not. But surely there must be someone up the corridor?
